Driving lessons in Burnley with a local instructor
One Stop School of Motoring offers friendly, affordable driving lessons in Burnley and across East Lancashire. Whether you are looking for manual lessons, automatic lessons or an intensive driving course, you get one-to-one teaching in a dual-controlled car, with pick-up from home, work, school or college.
Burnley is a brilliant place to learn: steep streets for hill starts, busy town-centre junctions, multi-lane roundabouts and the M65 for dual carriageway practice. Most local learners take their practical test at the Nelson test centre, a short drive away, so we practise the roads and junctions you are most likely to meet on the day.
We teach complete beginners, nervous drivers, returning drivers who want a refresher, and young drivers starting at 17. Not sure how much it all costs? Read our guide to driving lesson prices in Burnley, or call for a quote.

FAQs
Questions, answered
How much do driving lessons cost in Burnley?
Prices vary by instructor and lesson type. As a rough guide, typical rates in the Burnley area are in the region of £30 to £40 an hour in 2026, with automatics often a little more and block bookings cheaper per hour. Call 07817 843905 for a current quote, or read our guide to driving lesson prices in Burnley.
Do you teach manual and automatic?
Yes. Whichever you choose, you learn in a dual-controlled car with a friendly local instructor. Get in touch to check availability for your preferred type.
Which areas do you cover?
Burnley, Padiham, Nelson, Colne, Brierfield, Barrowford, Accrington, Great Harwood, Clitheroe, Rawtenstall and more across East Lancashire. We pick you up from home, work, school or college.
What do I need for my first lesson?
Your provisional driving licence (photocard) and glasses or contact lenses if you need them. That is all.
I have never driven. Can I still start?
Absolutely. Most of our learners start from scratch. We begin on quiet roads and build up at your pace.
Can you help if I am nervous?
Yes. Nervous drivers are some of our favourite people to teach. See our nervous driver lessons page for how we approach it.
Where do Burnley learners take their driving test?
Most take their practical test at the Nelson test centre on Commercial Road, a short drive from Burnley. You choose your centre when you book on GOV.UK, and we will advise.
Can I use your car for my driving test?
Yes. Test day car use and a warm-up lesson are available.
Do you offer intensive courses?
Yes. We offer intensive and semi-intensive courses, tailored after an assessment so you only pay for what you need.
How many lessons will I need?
The DVSA says learners take around 45 hours of professional lessons on average, plus private practice, but everyone is different. After your first lesson we will give you an honest estimate.
How old do I have to be to start?
You can start learning to drive a car at 17, or from 16 if you receive the enhanced rate of the mobility component of PIP.
How do I know my instructor is qualified?
Anyone charging for lessons must be a DVSA-approved ADI or a registered trainee. You can check on the official DVSA register on GOV.UK.
